Dermody Burke & Brown Announces New Management Team
August 28, 2009
Syracuse, NY – In 1956, the three founding members of Dermody, Burke & Brown instituted a foundation of integrity, passionate client service and respect for their CPA firm. Over 700 clients, 100 employees and 50 years later, that philosophy continues to carry the firm to the next level with a new leadership transition.
Dermody, Burke & Brown announced today their new leadership approach using a team model. Bernie Corbishley, who will be retiring in January as the firm’s Managing Partner, stated that naming three executives to run the firm is a new approach designed to address the company’s rapid growth and the growth of its clients’ businesses.
Today, Corbishley announced firm partner Madelyn Hornstein will be named Chief Executive Officer, partner Bill Killory will become firm Chief Financial Officer and partner Carolyn Sturick will fill the position of Chief Operating Officer.
“Our own growth coupled with our client’s successes call for a different management philosophy allowing for diversified responsibilities among a core group of leaders,” Corbishley explained. “This new team vision enables each person to focus on their specific firm function area while allowing them the time to maintain vital client contact and counseling.”
As CEO, Madelyn Hornstein, CPA will focus on setting the company’s future course through strategic growth, ensuring continued client success, and maintaining the personal relationships so vital to a successful firm.
“I am really looking forward to this challenging new role. I am confident in our talented team of 100 plus employees here at DB&B and I am honored to represent them. Our top priority is and will continue to be our clients and helping them achieve their goals,” said Hornstein.
Bill Killory, who has been with DB&B since 1990, was named CFO, a function that includes directing the company’s financial functions as well as analyzing current and future business operations.
“There is a very successful business model in place already at the firm thanks to the leadership of Bernie Corbishley so I am very pleased to continue his legacy while employing new visions for strategic growth,” noted Killory. “My goal is to ensure stability for DB&B long into the future so our clients know they can always count on us to be there for counsel and development.”
Carolyn Sturick, the firm’s new COO, will focus her attention on client service and satisfaction. She will ensure the smooth operation of daily firm business including meeting deadlines, setting performance goals for employees and assessing and implementing operating policies for the firm.
“I am excited about the opportunity to manage current best practices in our firm’s daily operations while implementing additional ideas to further improve the efficiencies of a rapidly expanding business,” said Sturick. “I join Madelyn Hornstein and Bill Killory in our new leadership role and look forward to future success.”
